Hello world!
Something happened during half time of the Super Bowl on February 23, 2008. I’m not talking about Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. As I sat by myself in front of the television, with a dinner plate full of nachos with melted cheese and a beer, I was tired. Tired of feeling bad. Tired of looking bad. Tired of being tired of it. I decided to get up the next day, weight myself and start Weight Watchers. That would be my first goal.
When I was 25, I joined WW to lose a few pounds. I was at 215 back then. In six months, I lost 45 pounds and became I Lifetime Weight Watcher member. I didn’t make the necessary lifestyle changes and my weight started heading back up. 16 years and two children later, I contemplated my health over that plate of nachos.
It’s now three weeks after the Patriots 18 game winning streak ended. I am still on Weight Watchers, I have lost 17 lbs, started exercising and have started to believe this is more than a passing fad.
I will be using “If I can” to journal my journey from an obese middle-aged sedentary man to a healthy active middle-aged man with a brighter future.
For the record, I finished the nachos and beer.
